Carl Mami
1999 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
Carl Mami started out as a regular normal costumer: building costumes, being a part of others’ groups, being politically active in the hobby, the usual. But Carl is a habitual collector. He wanted one of every costume he saw for his very own. Luckily for us, he chose to collect them on video and as still photos. He traveled the world to get whatever he needed, paying his own way, pestering, cajoling and whatever else it took, to dust off old shoe boxes and scrapbooks to find his prey. It is the Guild and all costumers who reap the benefits, as what could have turned into nothing more than one guy’s stamp collection in the basement, is now the ICG Archives, and every effort is made to preserve and share the art form and its history with others.
