The third in the Silicon Web Costumers’ Guild webinar series has been announced. The webinar takes place on Sunday Jan 29, 2023 from 1-2.30pm PT, 4-5.30pm ET.

Join author Andrew Liptak as he discusses his book Cosplay: A History. The book is a deep dive into the origins and culture of cosplay that covers a wide swath of its history to understand where it came from, how it has evolved, and why it has become such a mainstream phenomenon.

According to Adam Savage, who wrote the introduction to the book, “Andrew has done a great service to the world by writing this book and treating this beautiful art with the seriousness it deserves, despite cosplay’s penchant for absurdity.”

Andrew Liptak is a writer and historian, and a member of the 501st Legion, an international fan-based organization dedicated to the dark side of Star Wars.

Registration for SiW members is open now; members should check their email for the registration link. It will open to ICG members and the greater costuming community in late December. There is no fee for for this event but the number of attendees is limited, so be sure register as soon as registration opens.

The chapter acknowledges the International Costumers’ Guild Marty Gear Costuming Arts and Sciences Fund for a grant award in support of developing this webinar series. The chapter also acknowledges the ICG for making its Zoom platform available to chapters and special interest groups.
