About the International Costumers’ Guild Press
The International Costumers’ Guild Press is a publication arm of the non-profit International Costumers’ Guild (ICG). Its mission is to publish long-form content including books and monographs on topics related to costumes and costuming. The ICG Press serves the ICG’s mission as a non-profit educational organization.
The Press was proposed as a way to promote the ICG’s growth and extend its educational mission. Many professional societies and some non-profits publish books that support their educational missions. The ICG Board chartered the ICG Press, and appointed its first Editor in Chief in 2024.
The Editor in Chief oversees operations of the ICG Press. The role of the Editor in Chief is to solicit and receive manuscripts, recruit editors for individual publications, oversee the publication process, manage the finances, and ensure that authors and the ICG Press meet their obligations. The Editor in Chief is a member of the ICG Publications Committee.
Evaluation and selection of works for publication is done by a Selection Committee appointed by the Editor in Chief. The Selection Committee establishes and documents a process for authors to propose works for publication, how those works will be evaluated, and what selection criteria will be used. The Selection Committee forwards their recommendations to the Editor in Chief, who makes a final decision, notifies the author(s), and assigns an editor to oversee the publication process.
The ICG Press is generally financially self-sufficient, financing expenses with income from past publications, and occasional funds from the ICG and from donations for one-time expenses. Income from ICG Press activities is retained in a separate ICG Press account for its exclusive use.
