From Yahoo:

As a guild treasurer, I would like somehow to be reminded by email to submit my report. I think it would also be nice to get a positive "look at this" anytime a poll or similar is posted. I don't mind going to a web site to check things out, but if it's something I need to see, I'd rather have a notice of it. I don't feel a need to go to Slack for all the in-fighting I can't even vote on when it gets to that point.

Martha, reminders can be set up in Slack. If all the treasures have their own channel, they can set it up there.  There’s also personal to do’s and reminders, and more.

Several chapters have local only members who want to be part of a chapter but not the ICG.Let those who do not wish to submit the required information be considered Local Only and do not get the any of the benefits available for ICG members. That would include not being a member of a SIG as that requires an ICG membership first. That is the best way to deal with this then for going forward. The dues for those people can then be refunded as they are Local Only but not an ICG member.

The Pups have several local members and this works for us.

Here is a brief summary about archiving ICG Yahoo Groups to keep the Board up to date. A more detailed message is posted on the ICG-TW Yahoo Group.

I developed technology to capture Yahoo Group posts several years ago, and have captured the entire ICG-BOD message stream in a presentation format that enables viewing in a web browser, and in a machine-readable format that could enable us to import them into another platform eventually.

This capture technology could be used to capture messages for any of the other ICG Yahoo Groups. The automation works slowly because Yahoo tries to detect and prevent doing this. I have asked ICG-TW group members to suggest priorities for capturing the other ICG Yahoo groups.

Capturing polls is harder and requires hand work because they are not regularly numbered.

I have all of them through early 2019, and will set up to capture any since then. Luckily we do not run polls that often, and the poll results are announced in messages on ICG-BOD, so we have a backup record.

I have not found a way to automatically capture ICG BOD working files yet, but have posted several ideas to ICG-TW for discussion.

I will let you know if there are any significant developments. For now, the good news is we have the messages and polls, which are the minutes board discussions.

Another brilliant mind at work. I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to do something like that. Thanks!

Additional information.  The archiving method Phil uses can only archive "public" groups.  He was able to get ICG-BOD because it was a "custom" group that allows non-member reading  He tried archiving a small restricted group which did not work. That means that this method cannot archive any administrative groups, such as ICG-Finance, because non-members can't read the posts.  We will need to look for a different solution for those groups. We cannot change a restricted group to an open one after the fact, and the setting to allow non-member reading is not available on those groups either.

I am in the process of testing out software called PG Offline (http://www.personalgroupware.com/). So far, I've downloaded all the messages related to two of my theatre groups, but not the additional content. The second group is downloading now.

personalgroupware.com

PG Offline - Download Yahoo Groups, Messages, Files and Photos

PG Offline downloads Yahoo Groups, Messages, Files and Photos.

If this works, I'm going to download the Run A CC group next. I already grabbed all the files manually (there weren't that many). I suggest the Tech Committee look at this tool. It may do what we need for the ICG-D and other related lists (ICG-A, ICG-G, ICG-PUB, etc.)

Goodness how many yahoo groups does the ICG have? I guess I’m lucky I even knew about the BOD.

And as I'm a member of the groups above, I'm happy to do the work, as long as I know where the archive will go once I have it downloaded. At the moment, my main computer's hard drive is close to maxed out, and it's going with me to Karen's tomorrow.

On a separate but related topic: Private appears to be the default for adding channels to Slack when one is not an admin. If that's true, would an admin please add the following public channel [siw-communications-committee] and please archive the private channel I created? I don't see any reason to restrict the conversation to my chapter, especially when the results of said conversation might prove useful to other chapters in the same boat we are. If it's possible, I'd love to have that channel created tonight, but if it has to wait, I'll deal.

Time Travelers Costume Guild, TTCG (Portland Oregon) often has members who pay dues on our online square account or at a meeting and then do not fill out our online google membership form in a timely fashion.FYI this is what we have devised: NEW Membership Form (change contact info):
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfGnEmDkBNf9AsHIeqp1frAj7GCZs4D1diJXbA4t04ZzMD8Mg/viewform

RENEWALs/PAYMENT: https://squareup.com/store/time-travelers-costume-guild

We do our best to follow up with these people who do not fill out the form- especially those who have dropped off our roles and then "renew" and do not fill out a new form...and get their full information, including street address and…

Lorien Fletcher  8:17 PM

I send a monthly e-mail newsletter to all of our members that also has a membership card with their renew date. Here is Oct. 2019 in .pdf form:
